use the most often, or which one you need for a specific location before you make the investment. Why? It is against the law to fish in a lot of areas without a license. For recreational and commercial alike, it is important to carry your license with you when you are fishing. The law is set in place to keep track of large catches and to keep a legal limit on the number of rare and large fish you are allowed to hook and take home. This is a precautionary measure, much like hunting, to keep the species in that area from lacking and becoming scarce. Where Do I Get It? Obtaining a license is easier than you think. You can pick up a license at most local sporting good stores, the tax collectors office, and even online. They are relatively inexpensive, considering a lifetime permit to saltwater fish is around one hundred and fifty dollars! All you need to qualify for a license is your drivers license. Even children can get a kids permit. For the most part you need to be a resident of the area in which you are trying to fish, when you are trying to buy the license. If you are going on vacation somewhere that you would like to fish, you will need to obtain your license from that state. You can purchase a two week license or a five day license dependent upon your needs at the time. While planning your big trip, make sure you have all of the equipment you need, a rod, some bait, etc., but don’t forget your license!
